Above: The Artichoke lamp
was a work commissioned
for the Langelinie Pavilion
restaurant at the harbour front
in Copenhagen. Designed by Eva
Koppel in the International Style
in 1954, the restaurant required
a festive lamp that could also
look great when unlit. As well
as the Artichoke, the listed
restaurant – still in business
today – also sports PH’s Plate
pendants above many tables.
Right: For all his luminaires,
including the PH 5, Henningsen
meticulously traced the rays of
light to ensure even illumination
and that glare was eliminated.
Far right: Henningsen with three
of his creations, the Artichoke,
PH 5 and Plate pendant.
