Architecture is only revealed in light, and it is light that articulates the form in great buildings, says multi- award-winning lighting designer Dean Skira. ‘Put simply, light’s the most important building material’.
But ultimately, believes Skira, lighting is for people.
‘We don’t illuminate buildings for their own sake – we
illuminate them for those that gaze upon them.
‘It’s natural for lighting designers, interior designers
and architects to work closely together, even inspire
each other. However, in the end, it is all in service of
one common goal – people.’
Skira will bring his message to this year’s inaugural
lightspace dot london 2015 event, two days of curated
content on light and architecture from some of the
professions’ most inspiring speakers.
The theme of the event is the integration of electric
and natural light and uniquely, half the speakers will be
architects and half will be lighting designers and artists.
It’s co-located with the annual LuxLive exhibition
at ExCeL London on Wednesday 18 November and
Thursday 19 November.
‘With this event, we wanted to bring the two professions
together’, says programme director Ray Molony. ‘The
best projects are delivered when the barriers between
the disciplines are broken down.’
