Nicola Agresta comes from
Casalnuovo near Naples and
joined Inverse in London after his
architecture Master’s at the Università
degli Studi di Napoli Federico II. His
thesis looked at lighting design for
historical city centres. He has also
investigated the use of colour in
urban spaces, and has taken part
in experiments on visual perception.
At Inverse he has worked on
technically challenging projects such
as Zaha Hadid’s Havenhuis Antwerpen,
the new headquarters of the Antwerp
port authority, in Belgium, and the
Five Palm Jumeirah Dubai resort.
He is described as a ‘talented
and meticulous designer’ able
to multitask under pressure.

Nick Albert
Illuminate
Santa Monica, CA
Nick Albert’s technical knowledge,
hands-on experience and background
in architecture and interior design
inform the design vocabulary he uses
as a director of Illuminate in Santa
Monica, California. His approach is to
look ‘beyond the lines and circles of
the lighting plan to think about how
lighting will affect a space, its users
and its role in the world.’ Light is ‘the
common element that is manifest
in both the physical and digital
experience.’ He sees a future where
‘lighting design will offer a unique
opportunity to create experiences that
bridge our physical and digital lives.’
‘Strive for creativity, beauty
and a sense of place, while
maintaining close control
of both the efficiency and
effectiveness of the design’
